Obituary For Mr. Robert Knuckles, Jr.

Mr. Robert “Bob” Hezekiah Knuckles, Jr. entered this life on June 26, 1943 in Gownesville, South Carolina. After high school, he served in the United States Army. Upon his honorable discharge, he settled in New York City and began a 20 year career with the New York City Transit Authority. It was in New York that he met the love of his life, Hattie Alston. They were married in 1968. Their union produced two daughters, Samantha and Vanessa. Bob’s love of God and family led him back home to Campobello, South Carolina in 1996 after retiring from the New York City Transit Authority. He was able to immediately rejoin his home church, Smith Chapel Baptist Church. He served faithfully as a Deacon, Adult Sunday School Leader, Vacation Bible School Teacher, and a member of the Men’s Ministry. On September 26, 2003, Bob was seriously injured in an automobile accident that left him incapacitated. Despite his condition, he continued to thrive under the loving and devoted care of his wife, Hattie. On July 22, 2015, God called Bob home, no doubt with the familiar words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” A Celebration of the Life of Robert “Bob” Hezekiah Knuckles, Jr. will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Smith’s Chapel Baptist Church, 245 W. Frontage Rd., Campobello, SC. The Reverend Bobby McDowell will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
