Broadus Wilkins

Sergeant Major(Ret) Broadus Lee Wilkins of Boiling Springs, SC passed away at
Spartanburg Regional on April 11,2024. Born on December 22,1944 in Campobello, SC
he was the second oldest son of the late John and Lena Mae Wilkins.


Broadus joined Smith Chapel Baptist Church at a young age and was very active in
church singing in the choir and stepping in anywhere he was needed in supporting
Smith Chapel.


He graduated from Carver High school in Spindale, North Carolina soon after that he
was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War. After the war
he returned to Campobello, SC to work for a typewriter company. After a couple of
years, he decided to reenlist into the United States Army so that he would be able to
provide for his new family. He then stayed with the Army for 26 years where he was
afforded the opportunity to travel the world over seas and the United States. Most
memorable places of being stationed, Germany and South Korea where he served two
tours in both. He also served on a tour in Desert Storm.


After serving in the Army for 26 years, Broadus spent his free time with family and
friends, working at the food pantry on Selfridge Air National Guard Base and traveling to
South Carolina and Texas.


In 2014 his wife of 43 years passed and a few years later he met Sylvia Robinson,
having similar interests the two began a relationship that led to marriage in July 2020. In
2022 the couple moved to Boiling Springs, South Carolina, where he became a member
of New Pilgram Baptist church, Campobello.
Proceeding him in death: parents John and Lena Mae Wilkins, his late wife Peggy S.
Wilkins, eldest sister, Jessie Jackson, his brothers, Johnny, Roy, Thomas, Wallace and
Douglas Wilkins.


Broadus leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 3 years, Sylvia Robinson- Wilkins of
the home, one daughter, Ms. Tonia Wilkins, of Crowley, Texas, one son Mr. Broadus
Nathaniel Wilkins (Shina), of Clinton Township, Michigan, Sean Robinson, Detroit,
Michigan and one grandson, Nathaniel A. Wilkins, of Hayward, California and

granddaughter Shakayla Lewis of Clinton Township and a brother James Wilkins and
sister Elder Betty Kelly, and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, and adopted
grandchildren, relatives, and loving friends.

A Celebration of the Life of Sergeant Major (Ret) Broadus Lee Wilkins will be held on Saturday, April 20,2024 at 11:00 a.m. at New Pilgrim Baptist Church, 5040 Rainbow Lake Road, Campobello, SC. Rev. Rashad Dean will officiate. Burial with Military Rites will follow in the church cemetery.
