Queenie Mae Beard Childs, 90 was born in Appling, GA, to the late Oliver Beard, Sr. and Sallie Knox Beard. She attended schools in Augusta, GA. and was a graduate of Lucy C. Laney High School class of 1951, where she was an avid basketball and track player. She attended Paine College, where she studied Nursing. Her first job was with the late Dr. Paul D. Weston, later GA. Regional Hospital and GA. War Veterans Hospital simultaneously for many years and later retired from Veterans Administration Hospital. She was a faithful member of the Masonic associations, which included Eastern Star, Daughters of Isis and Golden Circle. She was also an active member of the PTA at Charles T. Walker and A. R. Johnson schools. She was a faithful member of Cumming Grove Baptist Church, where she was an Usher for over 70 years and a part of the Support Ministry. She lived and loved life vicariously.
Queenie is survived by her children: Eddie (Juanita) Childs, Jr., Brenda Childs, and Olivia Childs-Watford, Grandchildren: Darryl Childs, Angelica Childs, Alexis Watford and Ariel Watford; Siblings, Vernon Beard and Angeline (Richard) Holland; Sisters-in-Law, Susie Beard, and Delores Beard, a host of loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Celebration of life will be 11:00 am, Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Cumming Grove Baptist Church, 401 Milledge Road. Interment will follow in Mt. Olive Memorial Gardens. Kinsey & Walton Funeral Home, 3618 Peach Orchard Road. (706) 790-8858
