Obituary For Melvin Anderson, Jr.

Boiling Springs, SC – Melvin K. Anderson, Jr., 66, peacefully entered eternal rest on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at the William Jennings Bryan Dorn Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Melvin was the son of Mr. Melvin Anderson, Sr. and the late Mrs. Iva Brewton Anderson. Mr. Anderson was a devoted member of Zion Hill Baptist Church where he faithfully served on: Zion Hill Deacon & Trustee Board, Vice President of Zion Hill Usher’s Ministry, Benevolent Committee, Sunday School, Bible Study, The Brotherhood member and Director of Vacation Bible School. Melvin was a member of Edward J. Lindsay V.F.W. Post 9349 where his last appointed position was Chaplin. LCPL Anderson served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp; he earned numerous medals including two Purple Hearts in recognition of his valor during combat in the Vietnam conflict. Left to cherish fond and loving memories are: his father; his children, Anita (Douglas) Anderson Rookard, Darius C. (Sutthisa) Anderson, Melvin L. Anderson III, Shaennon A. Anderson and Ivan C. (Enchantis) Anderson; his god-son, Delvin (Shirlita) Layton; his brothers, James E. (Yvonne) Anderson and Kenneth Byrd; his sister, Murriel L. Anderson; his grandsons, Joshua and Gavin; his granddaughters, Phiola, Jamison, Zorah and Yaniyah; and a host of other cherished relatives and dear friends. A Celebration of the Life of Melvin K. Anderson, Jr. will be held on Wednesday, September 23 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church, 34 Blackstock Rd., Inman, SC. Reverend Richard Sadler will officiate. Entombment will be held on Thursday, September 24 at 11:00 a.m., at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Rd., Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends at the home, 621 Branchview Dr., Boiling Springs, SC.
