Jimmie L. Hooks, 93, of Memphis, TN, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024. Born on Sunday October 26, 1930 to Jimmy T. Lambert and Ethel Bell Gregory, the oldest sibling of Bobbie Jean Lambert and Carl Lambert. Jimmie watched over her siblings and took care of their household when their parents worked. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School where she was a female drummer in the marching band.
Jimmie married her former husband George Hooks Sr. in 1946 in Memphis Tennessee. To this union was born Hedy Hooks (Hill) and George Hooks Jr. (deceased). Jimmie was a life long member of Collins Chapel C.M.E. church, where she proudly served as a Stewardess for over 15 years. She was dedicated to the community as block captain for the neighborhood watch for the Glenview Community and graduated from the Citizen's Police Academy of the Memphis Police Department. As President of the American Business Women Assocation (ABWA) Shelby Pines Chapter, Jimmie started a college scholarship for deserving high school students rewarded each year when they maintained their grades.
Jimmie’s career spanned from working as a housekeeper, cleaning a doctor's office, a manager at the 100 North Main sundry counter and as the head of the Crump London Insurance Company file department until she retired in 1995.
Jimmie believed in helping anybody who had a need. She generously gave money, clothing, food, and even opened her home to those in need. When the need arose, she was a passionate caregiver for her father, mother, ex-husband, and close friend.
The family will receive friends Friday, April 26, 2024 from 10-11 AM with a Celebration of Life to follow at 11 AM at Collin’s Chapel CME Church located at 676 Washington Ave, Memphis, TN 38105. Internment will be immediately following in Memorial Park Cemetery 5668 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN 38119
