Richard Stanley Morrison, Sr.

Richard Stanley Morrison, Sr., was born March 21, 1947, in Newport News, Virginia, to Anguish Morrison and Mabel Elizabeth Page Morrison. He peacefully crossed into eternity at home on April 20, 2024. Preceding him in death were his parents and his brother, Howard Lee Foster, Jr.

Richard’s faith played a central role in his life from a young age. He became a St. Mary AME Church member in Apex, North Carolina, where he actively participated in various church activities. Later, he served as a trustee and dedicated New Life Community Church member in Fuquay Varina, North Carolina. His commitment to his faith extended to Bazzel Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Fuquay Varina, North Carolina.

Throughout his life, Richard embraced every moment with zest, influencing people of all ages with his infectious personality. He made it known that God was foremost in his life.

On January 28, 1974, Richard married Lula Frances Estes, with whom he shared fifty years of love and companionship. They shared two sons, Richard Stanley Morrison, Jr., and Reginald LaMont Morrison.

Richard’s journey encompassed diverse paths. He graduated from Apex Consolidated High School in 1966 and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, receiving an honorable discharge as Sergeant (SP5) in 1970. He worked for Pine State Creamery before joining IBM until his retirement. Additionally, he ventured into entrepreneurship, establishing L & R Hauling, and showcased his craftsmanship as a Master Carpenter.

Active in his community, Richard was a dedicated member of the Masonic Order, belonging to Wisdom Lodge #34 in Apex, North Carolina.

Richard’s memory is cherished by: his beloved wife, Lula Frances Morrison; sons, Richard Stanley Morrison, Jr. (Sonya), of Spring Lake, NC, and Reginald LaMont Morrison (Jacquelyn) of Charlotte, NC; and a host of beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Additionally, he is remembered fondly by his sisters, Joyce McDow (Robert, Sr.) of Laurinburg, NC, and Carolyn Hunter (Harold) of Holly Springs, NC; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends especially his masonic brothers and sisters.

Visitation: 12:00 - 1:00 pm Sunday, April 28, 2024, at Bazzel Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Fuquay-Varina, NC.

Funeral will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at Bazzel Creek Missionary Baptist Church, 1228 Wilbon Road in Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526.

Burial: 12:00 pm Monday, April 29, 2024, at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 164 Longs Plant Farm Road in Goldsboro, NC 27534.

The family will be receiving family and friends between the hours of 4:30 - 7:00 pm. Please be mindful of the family’s request.
