Obituary For Mr. Edward Davis

Mr. Edward “Rabbit” Eugene Davis of Duncan, South Carolina, entered eternal rest on Friday, November 27, 2015, at the Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. Mr. Davis was born February 13, 1935, in Spartanburg County. He was the son of the late Berry Davis and Annie Mabel Smith and the foster son of the late Charlie West and Amanda Pitts of Pauline, South Carolina. His brother, Donnie McClure; two brothers-in-law, Wilbert Woodruff and Charles Shell; and three sisters-in-law, Emma Woodruff Meadows, Minnie Pilgrim Woodruff, and Helen Goforth-Jones McClure preceded Mr. Davis in death. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, scout leader, friend, dedicated deacon and member of the Harrison Grove Baptist Church in Roebuck, South Carolina. Mr. Davis retired from employment with the Spartanburg County Roads & Bridges Department on November 27, 1990, and was currently employed part-time with the J.W. Woodward Funeral Home, Inc., right up until his death. He was an exemplary role model of service to others, driving the Harrison Grove Baptist Church Bus and Van for nearly 40 years, serving as a volunteer leader with Harrison Grove Baptist Church Troop 296, Boy Scouts of America for over 25 years, serving as an usher at the Harrison Grove Baptist Church for over 50 years, and serving as a coach of many baseball and softball teams in Spartanburg County. Mr. Davis was also a member of the Robert Small Masonic Lodge No. 133 and the Brotherhood of Harrison Grove Baptist Church. He leaves to cherish fond and loving memories: his wife of over 50 years of marriage, Mrs. Bessie L. Woodruff Davis; four sons, Mr. Charles (Michelle) Davis of Irmo, South Carolina, James (DeLoris) Davis of Boiling Springs, South Carolina, Berry (Barbara) Davis of Boiling Springs, South Carolina, and Tommy Davis of the home; one daughter, Linda Tate Glenn of Spartanburg, South Carolina; two grandchildren, Felicia McAbee and Sharee McAbee reared in the home; three brothers-in-law; Howard (Mary) Woodruff, Cleve Woodruff and John Meadows of Spartanburg, South Carolina; one sister-in-law; Ethel Woodruff Shell of Inman, South Carolina; seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Mr. Davis will lie in state from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel on Thursday, December 3, 2015. Masonic Rites by Robert Small Masonic Lodge No. 133 will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the Chapel. The family will receive friends following the rites from 7:00-8:00 p.m. A Celebration of the Life of Edward “Rabbit” Davis will be held on Friday, December 4, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Harrison Grove Baptist Church, 299 State Rd S-42-2215, Roebuck, SC. Reverend Dr. Leon C. Rector, Jr. will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Davis will lie in state at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of the service on Friday.

I was shocked to learn of Ed passing , I,ve known him all of my sixty years , he was always jolly, and joking we shall all miss him dearly . To Bessie I know you are going to miss him dearly , but we know that was not the plan to be together eternally together. I cannot make it but please do accept my condolences.

To The Davis Family, I was very saddened to hear of Mr.Edward Davis death.I worked with him many years. A passionate worker and friendly to anyone passing his way.A great conversationer,historian and Husband ,Father and friend along with many capacities will be missed.Even during the death of a family member his kindness and encouragement was always there,and never forgotten. I had the pleasure of working with Mr.Ed when he drove the buses for Henderson Charters. He was such a not to be around. He would always make me laugh even on my bad days. He will be missed.
