Obituary For Ethel Greer

Ethel Ellen Garner Greer BUFFALO, SC-- On the morning of January 1, 2016 at 1:55 a.m., Mrs. Ethel Ellen Garner Greer left with the Angel of Silence, away to a land that is free from sickness, sorrow and pain. Ethel was the daughter of the late Monroe Garner and the late Alice Burke Garner; she was a native of Union County. Mrs. Greer joined St. Luke Baptist Church at an early age. She later became a member of the Senior Choir and the Missionary Society. Ethel was a graduate of Sims High School of Union. Ethel leaves a legacy of love, compassion and friendship; she was so giving of her time to family and friends. She often quoted: 'What gives meaning and beauty to life is our capacity for giving to others and our ability to experience joy, sharing with those around us.' Left to cherish fond memories of a beautiful life are: her siblings, Alice Ann Rice of Union, SC, Mable Garner of the home, James D. Garner of the home and Kenneth R. (Catherine) Garner of Charlotte, NC; nieces and nephews. Mrs. Greer will lie in state at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard Street, Spartanburg, SC. on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 from 1:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Mrs. Greer will lie in state on Wednesday at St. Luke Baptist Church from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of the funeral service. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon-12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, prior to the service at St. Luke Baptist Church of Buffalo, SC. A Celebration of the Life of Ethel Garner Greer will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at St Luke Baptist Church. The Reverend George W. Shell will officiate.
