Obituary For Roy Turner, Jr.

Roy O. Turner, Jr. of Spartanburg passed away suddenly on January 3, 2016. He was born on November 5, 1948 to the late Roy O., Sr. and Emily Lawson Turner. He was also predeceased by his beloved stepmother, Hilda Goode Turner, and his brother Royce Turner. He is survived by his sisters Merenda (Jerald) Turner Wilson, Susan (David) Turner Wright and Madeanna Turner. He especially loved his family, children and friends. He married Betty Lawter at a young age when they had a daughter Rhonda Howell. He later married the late Brenda Sparks Lark, and adopted her son Rick (Carla)Turner in 1970. He later wed Kay Albus, mother to Ginna Jarrett. Roy leaves five beloved grandchildren, Christopher Howell, Clinton Turner, Faith Brewer, Hazel Jarrett and Jayden Jarrett, and one great-grandchild, C.J. Howell. Roy was a long-standing, active member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. He served as the caretaker of the Spartanburg Police Club where he oversaw the Community Service Program. He was a skilled craftsman who specialized as a flooring contractor. Through flooring contracting work, he met Jack Tyner, Owner and Founder of Regal Distribution Co. The two formed a long-standing, close friendship. Services for Roy O. Turner, Jr. will be held on Saturday, January 16 at 2:00 p.m. at Spartanburg Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 1217 John B. White, Sr. Blvd. A visitation with the family will immediately follow the service. The family of Roy O. Turner, Sr. will receive friends at their respective homes. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions toward funeral expenses be made either through Rick Turner or directly to the J.W. Woodward Funeral Home, Inc. J. W. Woodward Funeral Home
