Obituary For Jessie Brewton

Chesnee, SC- Jessie James 'Pop' Brewton, of 246 Ware Road, was born on January 11, 1948 to the late James Earle and the late Margie Black Brewton as the eldest child of six children. On Saturday, February 20, 2016 Jessie peacefully departed this life at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. Jessie was a dedicated member of Remnant Worship Center in Boiling Springs, SC where he faithfully served his Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ. Jessie was employed at Mayfair Mills for over twenty-five years; he retired from Spartanburg School District 2. Jesse leaves to cherish fond memories: two sons, Charles Holbert of Spartanburg, SC and Demarius Brewton of the home; one daughter, Patricia Johnson of Greenville, SC; longtime companion of thirty-one years, Mary Hurst; six stepchildren, Jimmy Hurst, James (Crystal) McDowell, Bobby (Lashonda) McDowell, Mary Collins, Elvelena McDowell, Patricia (Furman) Wesley; three sisters, Thelma Brewton of Inman, SC, Mary Ann (James) Woodruff and Savannah Brewton both of Spartanburg, SC; two brothers, Willie Brewton of Wellford, SC and Thomas Brewton of Spartanburg, SC; former wife and friend, Shirley Copeland Brewton of Spartanburg and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life for Mr. Jessie James Brewton will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at the John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard Street, Spartanburg, SC. The Reverend Tammy Lyles will officiate. Interment will be in the Ridgeville Baptist Church Cemetery, 385 Ridgeville Church Road, Inman, SC. The family will receive friends at his home and at the home of a sister, Mary Ann (James) Woodruff, 585 Hugh Street, Spartanburg, SC. J.W. Woodward Funeral Home
