Obituary For Willie Davis

Willie “Dub” Davis, 84, passed on Monday, March 7, 2016 at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System. “Dub” was born on March 31, 1931 to the parents of the late Will and Maggie Davis. He was the husband of Annie Lee Suber. He was a member and trustee of Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Davis was a Mason and Korean War Army Veteran. Willie retired from Phillip Fibers where he worked as a foreman. After his retirement he, started his lawn care business serving relatives and friends of the Spartanburg Community. He enjoyed fishing, the outdoors, and listening to gospel music. Along with his “sparkling” eyes, he had an infectious smile, a generous heart and a grateful spirit. He enjoyed helping others and would give you his last penny in his pocket without hesitation. “Dub” was an entertainer with a natural ability to make you laugh; just a few minutes in his presence would brighten your darkest day. He was loved dearly and will be missed tremendously. Left to cherish fond and loving memories are: his wife of 65 years, Annie Lee; his five daughters, Mary (James) Means of Central Islip, NY, Vanessa Davis Baker of Spartanburg, SC, Cathy (Scott) Davis of Boca Raton, FL, Tommysena (Carlos) Van Phillips of Oxford, GA and Jacqueline Davis of Spartanburg, SC; his two sons, Willie Douglas of Charlotte, NC and Tommy (Dee) Davis of Conyers, GA; his five sisters, Janie Clownye, Rubye (Robert) Smith, Ruth Hardy, Genova (Charles) Dawkins and Frances (Robert) Griffin; his sister-in-law, Bessie Davis; his twelve grandchildren; his three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other dear relatives and friends. “Dub” was preceded in death by a daughter, Evelyn Davis Thomas; four sisters, Thelma Jones, Sallie Rice, Margie Brown and Bessie Ferguson; three brothers, Roosevelt, Clarence Henry and James Albert Henry. A Celebration of the Life of Willie “Dub” Davis will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 645 Old Howard Gap Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29303. Dr. Walter Belton will officiate. Interment will be in the Lincoln Memorial Gardens, 2310 Cannons Campground Rd., Drayton, SC.
