Obituary For Thomas Tolliver, III

SPARTANBURG, SC - Thomas Tolliver, III, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 22, 2016 after a brief illness. Thomas was born on March 26, 1950 in Spartanburg, SC to the marriage of Bernice and the late Thomas Tolliver, Jr. His was the paternal grandson of Tom Mack, Sr. and Rose Tolliver and maternal grandson of Ms. Mary Garner. Thomas graduated from Carver High School in 1968; he pursued further studies at North Carolina A&T University in 1970. Thomas volunteered to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Army. He entered Military Police (MP) School at Ft. Gordon, Georgia. Following completion of MP School, Thomas joined the 138th Military Police Co. where he served from 1971-1973. While serving as an MP, Thomas was awarded the National Defense Service Metal, and the Korean Service Metal. He also qualified as a sharpshooter with both the M-16 rifle and .45 caliber handgun. Following his Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Army, Thomas continued his studies and later earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Voorhees College in 1983. Thomas worked as guidance Counselor for the Boys Home of Spartanburg for several years. Our family, along with many friends, lost a wonderful human being and a friend. His passions were spending time with family, and telling amazing stories to entertain. Those who will miss Thomas the most include: his mother, Bernice G.W. Lewis; brothers, Jerome (Tammy), Christopher (Jewel), Reginald (Marsha); and sister, Scarlett. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends are among the many who will forever mourn his loss. A Celebration of the Life of Thomas Tolliver, III will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 29, 2016 at Silver Hill Memorial United Methodist Church, 778 John B. White, Sr. Boulevard, Spartanburg, SC 29306 with the Reverend Jerry Louis Gadsden officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Silver Hill Memorial Church Outreach ministry.
