Funeral service for Eric Johnson, 51, of Salem, AL, will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Greater Peace Missionary Baptist Church, 650 Jeter Avenue, Opelika, AL, 36801 with interment in the Lipscomb Family Cemetery, Salem, Alabama 36874, Reverend Clifford E. Jones, Pastor, Bishop Kenneth Carter, Eulogist.

Mr. Johnson, who passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, AL, was born April 22, 1972, in Lee County, Alabama.

Public viewing will be Friday, April 26, 2024, from 2:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m.

Mr. Johnson will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the service.

“Big E” as he was affectionately known, graduated from Beauregard High School Class of 1990 where he played on the football, baseball and basketball team. After graduation, he attended Alabama State University and later attended Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and Criminal Justice in May of 1996. Eric was an investigator at Whittelsey & Corley for over fifteen years.

He leaves to cherish his memory: a loving and caring wife, Shanndora Greer-Johnson of Opelika, AL; five children, Kingston Greer-Johnson, Princeton Greer-Johnson, London Bryant-Johnson, Payton Greer-Johnson and Paris Greer-Johnson all of Opelika, AL; four brothers, Maurelle (Nicola) Cleaves of Douglasville, GA, Anthony Cleaves of Opelika, AL Robert Johnson, Jr. of Cleveland, OH and Derrick (Tamika) Johnson, Sr. of Richmond, VA; three sisters, Tonya (Joe) Jones of Cleveland, OH, Annie Chaffon Bufford of Auburn, AL and Tracy Reese of Opelika, AL; uncle, Ronnie (Joyce) Johnson, Sr. of Opelika, AL; aunt, Dorothy Jean Torrence of Lumberton, NJ; three bonus siblings, Aritha (Broderick) Banks, Roderick (Sabrina) Baker and Yolanda Johnson all of Opelika, AL; godmother, Odell Williams of Opelika, AL; goddaughter, Marcayla Williams; special nieces and nephews, Roderick Edwards, Nekya Edwards, Gecharus Tables, Abria Grimmett; special colleagues, Davis Whittelsey, Jonathan Corley and Bobby Poole; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
