Obituary For Nannie Ruth Dawkins

Spartanburg, SC - Mrs. Nannie Ruth Hunter Dawkins, 72, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, October 20, 2016. Mrs. Dawkins was the daughter of the late Cooksey Perry Hunter, Sr. and Mildred Mabry Styles Hunter. She was the wife of Freddie E. Dawkins, Sr. At an early age she attended Bethel Holiness Church in Spartanburg, SC. She attended Highland and Mary H. Wright Elementary School. Mrs. Dawkins graduated from Carver High School, Class of 1963. While in school she played basketball, tennis and majorette in mordern dance. Nannie Ruth was retired from Butte Knitt and Toledo Scales of Spartanburg, SC. She volunteered at Total Ministries and Salvation Army. Mrs. Dawkins helped in the community where she lived in, Phyllis Goins Ct. and Pioneer Place. Left to cherish fond and loving memories are: her husband, Freddie E. Dawkins,Sr.; her sisters, Annette (Rev. George) Downs of Spartanburg, SC, Diane Gilliam of Spartanburg, SC, Betty J. Cooks of Largo, MD and Linda D. (Rev. Douglas) Level of Douglasville, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Freddie E. “Tweet” Dawkins, Jr.; her sister, Marie Hunter; and her brother, Cooksey Perry Hunter, Jr. A Celebration of the Life of Nannie Ruth Hunter Dawkins will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 220 Austin Street, Spartanburg, SC. Reverend Akeem Downs will officiate. Interment will be held in the Lincoln Memorial Gardens, 2310 Cannons Campground Rd., Drayton, SC.
