Obituary For William E. Crawford, Jr.

William Edward Crawford, Jr was born on November 13, 1967, to the late Wilhemina Crosby Samuel and William Edward Crawford, Sr of Union, South Carolina.


William was a 1985 graduate of Spartanburg High School, Spartanburg, SC. He was employed at TNS Mills for several years before beginning his career as a truck driver. He drove for Nolan and CRG. He later became a night supervisor for CRG.


William was a faithful and devoted member of Harrison Grove Baptist Church where he served in many capacities. He was a member of the Men’s Sunday School Class, the Brotherhood Ministry, assisted in the Transportation Ministry, Media Ministry, and member of the Usher Ministry. He later became president of the Usher Ministry of the Harrison Grove Baptist Church. Because of his dedication and passion, he was president of the Tyger River Baptist Association Ushers’ Ministry. He was on the South Carolina E&M State Board and represented District 4.


He was appointed Trustee in 2019. He was ordained as Deacon in August 2022. William worked diligently with the youth. He assisted others with the boys’ basketball team and help rebuild the youth ushers’ ministry. William was involved in all activities of the church from cooking fish for family fun day to planning the annual Christmas party. He was always willing to help whenever asked. He loved his church and the church family.


He was an active member of the Masonic Spartan Star Lodge #108 and Jeptha Chapter #21.


William leaves to cherish loving memories to his wife, Cheryl. Fond memories to his 4 daughters: Yvette (Tyler) Dewberry, of Spartanburg, SC; Willow, Wesslie and Wynnter of the home. His father, William E Crawford, Sr of Union, SC; 4 sisters: Gwendolyn Jefferies of Spartanburg, SC. Michelle Thomas of Maryland; Tamarra Crawford Williams and Shamekia Crawford of Union, SC. 2 brothers: Lamar Stewart of Columbia, SC, and Christopher (Daisy) Stewart of Union, SC. And 2 grandsons, Tyler Jr and Treston Dewberry of Spartanburg, SC. Theodore and Patricia Owens, in-laws of Spartanburg SC, Sheila (Rudolph) Foster of Spartanburg, SC and Cassie Owens Moore of Seneca, SC; and a host of aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Celebration of the Life of William Crawford, Jr. will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Harrison Grove Baptist Church, Roebuck, SC. Burial will be in the church cemetery.


Visitation will be held on Friday, May 3, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard St., Spartanburg, SC.
