A time to be born:
Jimmie Levon Murphy was born October 10, 1945, at Daniels Hospital in Pavo, GA. He was the seventh of twelve children born to the late Eddie and Rosa Lee Williams Murphy. Jimmie developed rheumatic fever at four and was not expected to walk again. His grandfather, Walter Murphy, gave him a red wagon for Christmas. While playing with the wagon, God healed his legs. Jimmie was educated in the Brooks County, Georgia, school system, where he graduated. Jimmie enlisted in the United States Army, serving in the Vietnam War. He attended church with family and developed a love for God, gospel music, and reading.
A time to love:
He married Martha Walker, who died at Madison County Memorial Hospital on January 27, 2020, at 2:30 am. To this union, no children were born.
A time to die:
On Monday, April 8, 2024, Jimmie departed this life. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sister Loretta Murphy Zachary and brothers Eddie Lee Murphy, Jr.and James Clarence Murphy. He leaves to cherish his memory his five sisters and three brothers: Annie Laura Jackson of Portland, OR; Margaret Edna Murphy and Linda Sue (Bobby) Owensby, both of Atlanta, GA; Janice Delaney (Samuel) Jones of Boca Raton, FL, and Carolyn Elaine Murphy of Quitman GA. John Wesley Murphy of Quitman, GA; Walter Clifford(Vernistine) Murphy of Atlanta, GA; and Charles Edward (Marlene) Murphy of Marietta, GA. Two aunts: Ocie Slaughter of Atlanta, GA, and Martha Silas of Decatur, GA; one uncle, Alexander Williams of Waycross, GA; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and other relatives.
Home going services will be Saturday, April 27, 2023 at 11AM at Summer Hill MB Church with Linda Owensby, eulogist and Margaret Grisson, Pastor. Burial will follow in the Murphy family cemetery.
