In loving memory of the esteemed James D. Simon, a gentle soul whose presence on this earth brought light and joy to all who knew him. James was born June 5, 1954, in the humble town of Beckley, WV, to the union of Kathy Riley and James Simon. On April 22, 2024, his faith became sight, as James answered the heavenly call to enter into the presence of the Lord.

A man of abiding faith and devotion, he graced this world with his wisdom and compassion for 69 remarkable years. His gentle demeanor, warm smile, and unwavering commitment to his family and community will forever be remembered and cherished.

Although James was vocationally trained to service vehicles, he had a natural knack to diagnose and remedy issues with an engine. James made a lasting impact as a talented mechanic, dedicating his career to the automotive industry until his well-deserved retirement from Spitzer Chevrolet. He found solace in his work, often immersing himself in the world of cars and engines, a passion that brought him great joy. Even after retirement he continued tinkering on cars until failing health.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, James was a devout skillful musician for area churches, sharing his gift of music with all who listened. He found joy in every note he played, every melody he taught, and every soul he touched. Mentored by esteemed individuals such as Charles Robinson Sr. and the late George Everett McCollum, he cultivated his talent and shared his gift of music with the world, always giving acknowledgment to the divine. His commitment to his craft was unwavering, rooted in his deep faith and love for God.

James was a founding member of the Youngstown Area Interdenominational Fellowship Mass Choir where he presented "I Find No Fault in Him" his original composition for performance at the Edward Powers Auditorium. He dedicated his craft as a keyboardist strictly to playing for area churches, committing his gift only for the advancement of the Kingdom. Although he was a gospel musician extraordinaire, he appreciated listening to the soothing mellow sounds of jazz.

A man of few words, James spoke volumes through his actions and kindness. He valued moments of silence, finding peace and solace in the quiet beauty of life.

He found joy in life's simple pleasures, from enjoying a hearty breakfast to spending time at amusement parks with his beloved family. James adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, finding true happiness in their laughter and presence. He loved occasion for family gatherings.

His love for the Cleveland’s Browns, Indians and Cavaliers, as well as his passion for the Ohio State Buckeyes was a testament to his unwavering loyalty and passion for his favorite sports teams.

His legacy will continue to remain vibrant through his children Richard (Tamara) Page, Darrick Page, Jamhal Simon, Lakeesha (Richard) Moore, James (Jessica) Elliot-Teemer, Marcus Eldridge, Brian Smith, Bradley (Melissa) Smith, as well as his bonus children Jacquela Humbert, Juania "Toni" McBride, Jakeista (James) Cundiff and Selina (Corey) Cotton.
