Spartanburg, SC - Reverend Joseph K. Black was born on February 11, 1939 to Mrs. Effie Black and the late Mr. Perrin Black, Sr. One of God’s servants, he peacefully completed his journey on earth and went to his eternal resting home on Saturday, December 31, 2016. He was the husband of Mrs. Martha W. Martin Black for fifty-one years. Rev. Black was a graduate of Lincoln High School, Class of 1957. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Limestone College in 1981. Rev. Joseph served as the Pastor of the Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Round O, SC for fifteen years. Rev. Black was a dedicated and loyal member of the Old Ashley Sunday School Convention and BTU where he serviced as Vice President. He was a dedicated member of the Epsilon Nu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Rev. Black retired from the South Carolina Department of Corrections and United States Army after twenty years of service as a Master Sergeant. Survivors also include: his beloved children, Ernest “Tony” Parker Jr. (Sharon) of Sumter, SC, Teresa D. Patterson of Columbia, SC, Brigadier General Wayne L. Black (Symea) of Indianapolis, IN and Harnetha (Renee) Dean of Spartanburg, SC; his loving siblings: Annie L. Bland of Richmond Virginia, Perrin Black, Jr., Sallie B. McDowell, Minister Sundra B. Conner (James), Marvin Black (Terra), Dr. Larry D. Black (Dr. Teresa), Michael Black (Quida) and Nathan Black of Spartanburg, SC; his ten grandchildren; his eleven great grandchildren; his two god daughters; his uncle, Izell Black; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church and New Salem Zion Baptist Church family. Rev. Black was preceded in death by his siblings, Sterling T. Black, Wonzo Black, Paul Fant, Sr. and Catherine Black. A Celebration of Life for Reverend Joseph K. Black will be held Friday, January 6, 2017 at 12:00 noon at Fosters Grove Baptist Church, 899 Fosters Grove Rd, Chesnee, SC. Dr. Larry Black and Reverend Horace Wilson will officiate. Interment will be in the Heritage Memorial Gardens, 3901 S. Church St., Roebuck, SC. Epsilon Nu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. will conduct a Memorial Service on Thursday, January 5, 2017 from 6:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. in The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard St., Spartanburg, SC.
