Obituary For Rosa Lee Mayes

Spartanburg, SC - Rosa Lee Mayes entered eternal rest on Friday, December 30, 2016 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. She was born January 5, 1923 to the late James and Carrie McAbee Shelton. Mrs. Mayes was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church where she served in the Willing Workers Organization, Senior Missionary Society and the Helping Hands Sympathy Club. She was employed as a dental assistant for many years, and she also worked at Mountainview Nursing Home. Left to cherish fond and loving memories are: her thirteen nieces, Allean Moore of Lyman, SC, Carrie (Rev. Carnell) Hampton of Sumter, SC, Beatrice Collins of Wellford, SC, Lois Dean of Spartanburg, SC, Frankie Rice of Lyman, SC, Lena Faye Glenn of Woodruff, SC, Jessie (Oneal) Smith of Greenville, SC, Odessa (Oliver) Foster of Raleigh, NC, Norman Fox and Sylvia Fox both of Chicago, IL, Dorothy Earle and Barbara Rice both of Spartanburg, SC and Shirley (James) Davis of Wellford, SC; her six nephews, Jimmy (Rose) Edwards of Bronx, NY, Robert (Patty) Rogers of Raleigh, NC, Edward Mayes of Spartanburg, SC, Otis Lyles of Campobello, SC, Keith Mayes of MD and Walter Fox, Jr. of NC; and a host of great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Mayes was preceded in death by: her husbands, Will Knuckles and Eugene Mayes; her siblings, Dorothy Shelton, Alice Dean, Laura Rogers, Maggie Edwards, Richard Shelton and Lawrence Shelton. A Celebration of the Life of Rosa Lee Mayes will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, 445 S. Church St., Spartanburg, SC. Reverend Dr. Benjamin D. Snoddy will officiate. Interment will be in the Lincoln Memorial Gardens, 2310 Cannons Campground Rd., Spartanburg, SC.
