Obituary For Winford Lucas

Buffalo, NY – Winford James Lucas departed this earthly life on January 7, 2017 at the Buffalo General Medical Center. Born November 24, 1936, he was the son of the late Mae Sue Lucas. Winford was a native of Chesnee, SC and a graduate of Foster’s Grove High School. He was a member of the St. John Baptist Church. Winford (often referred to as “Cousin Luke”), was employed with the Buffalo Board of Education and General Motors, from where he retired. Mr. Lucas faithfully served his country and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army. He participated in several components of the Masonic Order, receiving the Thirty-Third degree. He was honored by the Grand Lodge of the State of New York electing him as an Honorary Past Grand Master. He served as a Worshipful Master, Illustrious Commander-in-Chief, and District Deputy Grand Master. Survivors include: his devoted wife, Sallie McDowell Lucas; his mother-in-law, Ivory McDowell of Spartanburg, SC; his brother-in-Law, Johnny (Mary) McDowell of Spartanburg, SC; his two nieces, Traci R. Drummond of Spartanburg, SC and Amy McDowell of Arlington, Virginia; his two great-nieces, Kiara Drummond of Jacksonville, FL and Kensley Drummond of Spartanburg, SC; her special adopted niece, Deborah Williams, of Buffalo, NY; and several cousins and numerous friends. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Friends in Christ United Methodist Church, 613 Fairfield St., Chesnee, SC. Burial will be in the Ridgeville Baptist Church Cemetery, 385 Ridgeville Church Rd., Inman, SC. The family will receive friends at 115 Weeping Oak Drive, Spartanburg, SC.
