Obituary For Bro. Samuel Means

SPARTANBURG, SC-- Samuel William Means, 70, of Spartanburg, SC, peacefully entered into eternal rest on January 20, 2017 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after battling bone cancer for nearly 12 years. He was born September 25, 1946 in the Flatwood community of Spartanburg county. He was the son of the late Isaac Means and Colean G. Briggs Means and was happily married to Mary Oglesby Means, of Spartanburg county, for 47 years. Samuel was known for his kind, humble, generous, and encouraging spirit. He positively touched so many lives far and near. Wherever you saw Samuel, you saw a Bible. He was truly a man of God and a great evangelist. Samuel was a 1965 graduate of Foster's Grove High School and after becoming a member of Lord's Church and worshipping at Sigsbee Church of Christ, he attended Sunset School of Preaching in Lubbock, TX and East Tennessee School of Preaching in Knoxville, TN. Before Samuel became the full-time minister at Sigsbee Church of Christ in 1980, he worked as a supervisor at Mead Container for 20 years. In addition to his wife, Samuel is survived by one brother, Archie (Mary) Means of Spartanburg, SC, and four sisters: Caponia (George) Blackley of Chesnee, SC, Carolyn (Johnny) Graham of Brunwick, GA, Edith Mitchell of Chesnee, SC, and Brenda (Larry) Manley of Spartanburg, SC, one sister-in-law Dorothy, the wife of his late brother James Means, two aunts, Frances Williams and Mable Rice of Oakland, CA. Samuel and Mary were not blessed with children, but they were blessed with four spiritual claimed children: Wanda Means, Iris Shands, of Spartanburg, Ginger Tate of Charlotte NC, and Keith Washington of Miami, Florida, and a host of nephews, nieces, god-children, god-grandchildren, family (spiritual and natural) and friends. A Celebration of Life for Bro. Samuel W. Means will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Sigsbee Church of Christ, 206 Parker Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303. The family is at the home of his brother, Archie Means, 2428 New Cut Rd, Spartanburg, SC. 29303. J. W. Woodward Funeral Home
