Obituary For Dillard Massey

SPARTANBURG,SC-Dillard Massey 'Grandpa' Mr. Dillard Massey lived a blessed and prosperous life of 95 years. This mighty man of God was born on a hot summer day as the fifth child of six children on August 29, 1921 on the Foster's Farm to the late Richard Massey and the late Azzie Miller Massey. On a cool spring morning on April 12, 2017 Mr. Massey peacefully entered into eternal rest at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home surrounded by his family. Dillard was the husband of Annie Rose Fuller Massey for 52 years until she entered into eternal rest in 1998. He was the last survivor of his six siblings, Mattie Wofford, Annie Massey, Marie Smith, Mark Massey, Frank Massey and Tetha Lee Massey. Dillard loved the Lord with all his heart. He made a vow to the Lord a long time ago that he would serve Him until he dies. This true soldier on the Battlefield for the Lord, was a devoted and dedicated member of the Foster Chapel Baptist Church in Roebuck, SC. He will be remembered lifting his hand in worship and as a former doorkeeper in the house of the Lord. Dillard retired from the Draper Plant after 38 years of service. Dillard was also a hardworking laborer with Cecil Lumber Construction Company, Fiske-Carter Construction Company, and Spartan Grain. Mr. Massey served faithful as a mason of Robert Small #133. Dillard and his late wife, Annie, were blessed with twelve children. They were known as the family with six boys and six girls: Mark (Janie) Massey of Spartanburg, SC, Thomas (Sylvia) Massey, Sr. of Roebuck, SC, Mattie (George) Cohen of Una, SC, Rosa Russell of Spartanburg, SC, Mary Wilkins of the home, Diane (Marshall) Smith of Spartanburg, SC, Carolyn (Roy) Smith, Sr. of Inman, SC, Jerry (Clara) Massey of Spartanburg, SC, James (Josephine) Massey of Spartanburg, SC, Joe Massey of Spartanburg, SC, Bobby Massey of the home and the late Sandra Denise Massey. Prior to marriage Dillard was blessed with a son, Van (Phila) Wofford of Petersburg, FL. He took great joy in helping to rear 26 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; and 8 great great grandchildren. The Massey Family will receive friends and family on Friday, April 14, 2017 from 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard Street, Spartanburg, SC. A Celebration of the Life of Dillard Massey will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 4:00p.m. at the Foster Chapel Baptist Church, 2800 Stone Station Road, Roebuck, SC. The Reverend Dr. Patrick Suber will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Massey will lie in state one hour prior to the service. J.W. Woodward Funeral Home
