Obituary For Charles Tate

Spartanburg, SC – Charles “Good Iron” Tate, 85, entered eternal rest on May 10, 2017 surrounded by his family. A native of Cherokee county; he was born June 28, 1931 to the late Mose Tate, Sr. and Maggalene Tate. He was a lifelong member of Knuckles Chapel Baptist Church, where he served on the all-male choir and was a former member of the usher board and the senior choir. He loved his church and they loved him. As he always said, “Everybody loves Charlie Tate!” Mr. Tate was retired from Vulcan Material after fifty-four years of service. Charlie leaves to cherish fond and loving memories to: his wife, Daisy Goode Tate; his daughters, Kimberly Tate and Lisha Tate of the home; his sons, Dwayne Tate of Charlotte, NC, Charles Tate, Reggie Tate, Barry Jones and James Michael Jones of Pacolet, SC; his sisters-in-law, Freddie Davis of Gaffney, SC and Geraldine Foster of Pacolet, SC; his brother-in-law, Stonewall Foster, Jr.; his five grandchildren reared in the home, Jonique (Darren) Wannamaker, Jamia (John) Brannon, Ja’keem (Ebony) Shippy, Jazzmin Tate and Justin Tate; three more grandchildren, Janielle Jones, Jakkia McBeth and Jaden Harris; his fourteen great-grandchildren, Jarius, Ja’Darren, Joshua, JaMarrion, Justyce, Jordan, Jayva, Ja’Heem, Ja’Nova, Ja’Kobe, Ja’lyia, Ja’Meria, Ja’Kayla and Ja’Daisha; two devoted nieces, Deneen F. Hemphill and Valrey “fifty cent” Porter; four very devoted friends, Joey and Sandra Wilson, Mr. Lewis Rogers and Ms. Lula Bell Richardson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Mose and Maggalean Tate; his sister, Annie Tate; his brothers, Tom Tate, Mose Tate, Monroe Tate, Joe Tate, Joe Dean Davis and Marshall Tate. A Celebration of the Life of Mr. Charles Tate will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017 2:00 p.m. at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard St. Spartanburg, SC. The Reverend Kerwin Wray will officiate. Interment will be in Pacolet Memorial Gardens, 131 Memorial Dr. Pacolet, SC. The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Kimberly Tate, 140 Woodland Circle Pacolet, SC.
