Obituary For Emma Lee Shands

Emma L. “Tennie” Shands, 82, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family. Mrs. Shands was born September 18, 1935 to the late Claude McCravy and Louise B. Simpson. “Tennie” was the widow of the late Harold Hazel Shands. Mrs. Shands was baptized at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. Emma retired from Wofford College and Piedmont Community Action. Left to cherish fond and loving memories are: her sister, Elaine S. Rice (John) and Deloris S. Mitchell both of Spartanburg, SC; her brothers, Rev. Frankie (Peggy) Ford of Spartanburg, SC, John Simpson of Atlanta, GA and Claude H. Simpson of Spartanburg, SC; his aunt, Catherine Epps; her adopted family, Jen, Joe, Jay, Elizabeth, Chase and Meredith Biber and Jane Courtney, Mark Davis, Amy and Robert Usey and their children; her dear friend, Bob Tate; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. “Tennie” was preceded in death by his brothers, Willie A. Simpson, Lonnie Earl Simpson, Bishop Lewis Brannon and Eugene Bonds. A Celebration of the Life of Emma L. “Teenie” Shands will be held on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard St., Spartanburg, SC. Burial will be in the Lincoln Memorial Gardens, 2310 Cannons Campground Rd., Spartanburg, SC.
