Mr. Alphonso Coe

Passed 05/22/2024

Alphonso Coe, a beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving wife and family on May 22, 2024 at Salisbury Veteran's Medical Center. He was born on October 8, 1945 in Hartsville, SC, to Hallie Coe Sr and Lucille (née Roberts) Coe. Al's kind heart and welcoming spirit shone brightly throughout his 78 years of life.

Al dedicated his life to Christ at an early age. He grew up in Kingsville Methodist Church in Hartsville, SC. He received his education from the Darlington County school system and obtained his diploma from Butler High School in 1964.

Out of the many places he's worked, the ones he held to the highest esteem are the United States Army, Greyhound and Wadesboro Town Council. He served in the United States Army for 3 years from 1965-1968 during the Vietnam War where he earned the rank of Sergeant, He worked for Greyhound for about 15 years where he held some management positions and got to see a lot of America. He served on Wadesboro's Town Council as a councilman and mayor pro temp for about a decade where he made quite an impact on the local community.

He met and married his best friend Theola in Baltimore, MD in November 1980. He entered into the marriage with 4 children (Michele, Alphonso Jr, Timothy and Terrence) and she entered into it with 1 (Kimberly). He was a devoted husband and father, always prioritizing his family and cherishing every moment he spent with them.

His family and friends will always remember him for being a charismatic, God-fearing, and outgoing individual who never met a stranger and touched all who knew him. His gift of gab made sure he lit up every room he entered. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.

Al was affectionately known as Snook by family and friends. Being quite the family man, he really enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, who gave him the title "Pop Pop." Because of his strong paternal qualities, it seemed natural for many children to refer to him as “Pop Pop” even if they weren't his grandkids.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 43 yearTheola (Wadesboro, NC), his children Michele, Alphonso Jr., and Terrence (Baltimore, MD), his step-daughter Kimberly (Baltimore, MD); his grandchildren Ashley (Jeaneliz), DeVante, Alphonso D'Andrew, Tysheara, Justice, Isaiah, Justin, and Kasche; and his great grandchildren Kayden, Alphonso Deandre Jr, August, Alejandro, Caysei, Laila, Astrid and Asher, his brother Charles (Lamar) Nathaniel Coe of Fairfax, VA, Clarence Muldrow (Darlington, SC), his sister Helen (Harold) Muldrow (Bronx, NY), his sisters-in-law Hortense Coe and Minister Dorothell "Dot" White Muldrow. As well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Hallie Coe Sr, his mother Lucille (née Roberts) Coe-Muldrow, his son Timothy Hayward Coe, his brothers Hallie Coe Jr, John Maxie Coe, Willie James Coe (Shirley), Wesley Tal Coe, Bobby Muldrow, Freddie Muldrow Sr., and Rev. Reuben Muldrow, his sisters Hattie Mae Muldrow and Rena Muldrow Patterson, his niece Katrice Coe, his nephews Teranguia Coe and Saquann Coe, his grandson Michael Makel and granddaughters Ava and Ariana Townsend.

Special thank you to NyAsia Wall, his bonus granddaughter who helped Pop Pop and his wife a great deal before, leading up to, and after his final days.
