James Lamarr Gilbert, age 70, of Milton, Massachusetts (formerly of Cedartown), received his wings on May 11, 2024.
Born on May 23, 1953, in Cedartown, Georgia. James was the beloved son of the late Leonard C. Gilbert and Annie Dean Gilbert. Known to many as Lamarr, he attended Dorchester High School, where his passion for football flourished. After graduating, he studied business at Boston State College before embarking on a career at Boston Logan International Airport. Driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, he later founded his own courier service, which he ran until his retirement.
A proud member of Morning Star Baptist Church, Lamarr found joy and purpose serving on the security team. His magnetic personality endeared him to all, embodying the charm LL Cool J famously attributed to himself: "The Ladies Loved Lamarr." No matter the circumstances, Lamarr's unwavering nature made him a cherished presence in many lives.
Lamarr was a devoted father who ensured his children and grandchildren remained close-knit. His love extended to shared moments of watching sports with his brother Danny and nephews and attending family reunions to create treasured family memories.
In July 2023, Lamarr began his battle with leukemia, confronting the illness with remarkable positivity and resilience until his final days.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and enduring connections.
James L. Gilbert was preceded in death by his sister, Annie Jean Mickens, his brother Leonard C. Gilbert II and his nephew Keith Pomare.
James L. Gilbert leaves behind to cherish his memory, his brother Danny Gilbert, his loving children; Kim Anne Thompson, Nadine Pressey, Keona Lemons, Jada Gray (Larenzo Gray), Jasmin Oliver (Terrance Oliver), Jared Chandler, Jamarah Peterson, Sydney Lewis (Seon
