Born on July 3, 1949, in New York City, Diana was the beloved daughter of Louise and Floyd Wright. She was the youngest of three daughters, joining her sisters, Christine and Eloise Wright. Diana's life was marked by love, compassion, and dedication to her family and community.
From a young age, Diana exhibited a passion for learning and a drive for excellence. She excelled in school, consistently earning a place on the honor roll throughout her academic journey. Her thirst for knowledge and dedication to her studies set her apart and laid the foundation for a lifetime of success.
Diana's journey began in New York City, where she attended Julia Richman High School, graduating in June 1968 with a heart full of dreams and aspirations. It was there that she laid the foundation for a life filled with love and service.
In 1971, Diana embarked on a beautiful journey of love and partnership when she married Willie Earl Russ from Wilmington, North Carolina. Their union was blessed with a son, Glen Andre Russ, and a daughter, Chantel Marie Russ. Diana's commitment to her family was unwavering, and she embraced her role as a loving wife and mother with grace and devotion.
Though her professional journey took various paths, Diana's dedication remained constant. She began her early career as an insurance claims agent at Equitable, showcasing her commitment to excellence and hard work. After starting a family, she transitioned into the role of a devoted housewife, focusing on nurturing her children and creating a loving home.
In the following years, Diana re-entered the workforce, serving as a part-time retail manager at Woolworths. Her warmth and dedication endeared her to both colleagues and customers alike. Even after Woolworth's closed its doors, Diana's passion for serving others led her to a new calling as a Nurse's Aide at Partners In Care. For 14 years, she tirelessly cared for those in need, embodying the true spirit of compassion and empathy.
Upon her retirement, Diana found joy in her role as a grandmother, cherishing every moment spent with her grandchildren. Her nurturing nature extended beyond her family as she devoted her time to volunteering at several organizations, leaving a lasting impact on all those she encountered.
Her husband of 41 years, Willie Earl Russ, passed away on July 29, 2012. She is survived by her son, Glen, her daughter, Chantel, and her three granddaughters, Talayeh, Tianna, and Taylor.
