Full Obituary for: Ms. Martha Jane Scott Postell, a devoted servant of God and beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully at her Montgomery home on May 22, 2024, surrounded by her family. She kept her mind on Jesus and remained faithful to His promises in all circumstances until Jesus made the call. Born on January 29, 1947, to the late Ed and Ollie Mae Scott.
From a young age, Martha's unwavering belief in God was evident in her actions and interactions. She was an active and faithful member of Union Chapel AME Zion Church, where she served diligently until her illness. Martha dedicated her life to serving others and spreading love and faith. She served on the ministry for the sick and shut in and encouraged them with her sense of humor to keep their minds off of their circumstances by keeping the faith.
Martha's love extended beyond her family to her community, where she selflessly cared for the sick and elderly, bringing joy and comfort to all she encountered. She prepared and delivered baskets to the sick and elderly in her community and helped wherever the harvest was plenty and the labors were few. She didn't have much but she always gave her all and did a thorough job on whatever she put her hands on. She spent hours in her yard and truly appreciated a beautiful yard filled with flowers and plants. Her occupation wasn't a job; it was her ministry. Her dedication to her work, both in her yard and in her occupation, reflected her commitment to serving others with grace and excellence.
Known for her thoughtfulness, generosity, and energetic spirit, Martha impacted countless lives with her caring nature and strong faith. She had an uncanny ability to reach and connect with people of all ages in a deep and special way. A loving daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Martha's legacy of love, faith, and service will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be remembered for her kind heart, unwavering faith, and the profound impact she had on those around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Ollie Scott; daughter, Sharon Scott; granddaughter Andreia Scott; siblings, Fannie Grant, Johnny, Michael, Eddie, and Lewis Scott.
Martha's legacy lives on through her children: James Postell of Las Vegas, NV; Regina (McKinley) Manuel, Marcus, and Eemetris Postell of Montgomery, AL; Jonathan Postell of Louisville, KY; and honorary son Anthony House of Montgomery, AL. She is also survived by her sisters, Flora Foshee and Liza Williams both of Montgomery, AL ; brothers, Dan Scott of Birmingham, AL, Henry Scott of Montgomery AL, and Nathaniel Scott of Detroit, AL; 28 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, which includes Ja’Quincy, Andre, and De’Michael Scott whom she helped raise; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Martha are invited to celebrate her life at Union Chapel AME Zion Church, 11:00 am, 3100 Old Wetumpka Highway, Montgomery, AL, 36117, in honor of a life well lived.
