Obituary For Yvonne Smith

Yvonne Jacquelyn Oglesby Smith, affectionately known as “Ms. Von or Von,” departed her earthly life and moved to her Heavenly home on April 14, 2018 after a brief illness. Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late Buford Oglesby and Ola Mae Hill Oglesby. She was the widow of Theodore Smith. Yvonne graduated from Carver High School, Class of 1966. She joined Mt. Sinai Baptist Church at an early age where she faithfully served as a member of the Cross Cultural Institute of America Food Ministry, Mt. Sinai Mixed Choir, Willing Women Workers Outreach and the Social Committee. Left to cherish fond and loving memories are: her sons, Dewayne Crocker, Lamont (Pam) Smith, Travalas Smith and Kevin Smith all of Spartanburg SC; her three step daughters, Deshawn Purrington, Crystal Purrington and Latisha Steven all of Brooklyn, NY; her brother; Sidney (Betty) Oglesby of Spartanburg SC; her half-sister, Sheila Griffin; her half-brother, Ronald Hill of Tacoma, WA; her grandchildren, Dawaysia Crocker and Devontae Crocker reared in the home, Akeem Smith and Jaheim Smith of Spartanburg, SC; her special cousin, Ola Mae Oglesby Smith; and a host of other relatives and friends. A Celebration of the Life of Yvonne Jacqueline Oglesby Smith will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, 2911 S. Pine St., Spartanburg, SC. Interment will be in the Heritage Memorial Gardens, 3901 S. Church St., Roebuck, SC.
