Shirley Thomas

Passed 05/13/2024

SHIRLEY A. THOMAS, daughter of the late William Thompson and the late Helga Nowakuski Thompson, was born in Kansas City, Missouri.

In her formative years, Shirley attended Job Corp in West Virginia. She retired from her position as a school bus driver in 2018, after serving 17 years, driving her beloved Bus#7. Driving the school bus, she ended up with a boat load of extended family that till this day call her mom or auntie. The love she showed them didn’t go unrecognized.

In her leisure, Saturday mornings were set aside for Yard sales, she loves going to Walmart, casinos (and don’t ask her to get up from her seat because it wasn’t happening) and her new go to was TEMU! She loved to sit on the porch and catch the night air, while watching Bry-Bry and his friends run up and down the street! A simple hello, from Shirl would lift your spirits no matter what mood you were in and that’s why everyone she met loved her.

On Monday, May 13, 2024 at the age of 63 years, Shirley transitioned from this earthly life into eternal life surrounded by family at the UPMC Harrisburg Hospital in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Helga Thompson; her sister, Macelia Thompson; her brother, Alphonso Thompson and her grandson, Bre’yante Thompson.

She leaves to celebrate and to carry on her legacy her husband of 43 years, William Thomas; her only daughter, Jateeyia Thompson of Harrisburg, PA; her two sons, Michael Thompson (Dominque Ford) of Hummelstown, PA and Ricky Thompson (Sha’Shana) of Baltimore, MD; her grandchildren, Brenton (Taco), Brentany (Breezy), Bre’Yanna (Yum), Bre’Yone (Pop-Pop), My’lynn Thompson, all of Harrisburg, PA, Madyson, Mikaela and Mykell Thompson, Isaiah and Xzaviar Ford, all of Hummelstown, PA; her great-grandchildren, Bry’on Thompson, Mella Ann Hill-Adams and Ay’son Thompson and her favorite sister-in-law, Carolyn Talley, all of Harrisburg, PA; she also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, close relatives and extended family she gained over the years. She will be sorely missed.

Shirley's life will be celebrated at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2024 in the Chapel of the Major H. Winfield Funeral Home, Steelton with viewing and visitation from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
