Eric Baron Chester went home to be with his Savior on June 3, 2024, at Wills Memorial Hospital, Washington, GA. He was born August 1, 1969, in Athens, GA to Leroy Chester Jr. and Geneva Johnson Blassingame. Eric was raised in the home of his grandparents, the late Leroy and Isabella Chester, Sr. of Union Point, Ga.
Eric received Christ at New Salem Baptist Church September 2, 1979, under the leadership of Pastor R. L. Reynolds.
Eric graduated from Northwest High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. Eric had health challenges from an early age but that didn’t stop him from playing football for his school. Eric enjoyed playing sports. He loved working with his hands and earned his degree in Diesel and Truck Technology from Lincoln College of Technology in Nashville, TN. on March 2, 2015. He was employed by Chrysler Corporation in Columbia, TN. for several years. He was always learning and became certified as a heating and air conditioning technician.
He was an adventurer at heart, he traveled extensively, worked hard, loved life and laughed heartily. He freely gave of himself and never met a stranger.
Eric was loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Eric’s brother Percy “Buck” Eberhart, Jr. of Athens, GA. preceded him in death.
Eric’s spirit lives on in the memories of his loving father Leroy Chester, Jr. Union Point, GA, and mother Geneva Ford Blassingame, Athens, GA, two sisters Caroline Ford Coleman, Washington, DC, Meka Fitch, Lawrenceville, GA, and one brother Terrence M. Ford, Athens, GA, two uncles James A. (Jacqueline) Chester, Ellenwood, GA, and Frank Johnson, Decatur, GA, four aunts, Doris C. Smith and Carolyn D. Chester, Union Point, GA, Marie Johnson and Betty Lou Johnson, Athens, GA, one great aunt Agnes Reid, Atlanta, GA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
We shall always cherish our time with Eric.
