Deacon David Lee McClain age 74 of Kings Mountain, North Carolina transitioned on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at CaroMont Health Center. He was born in Cleveland County, North Carolina on August 9, 1949to the late Andrew McClain and Stella Mae Adams McClain. He began his education at Washington High School. He was a proud graduate of Cleveland Technical Community College where he received his Adult High School diploma. Always a hardworking man throughout his life, he retired from the Cleveland County School System. After retiring from the school system, he and his wife began to work full-time in their calling, a ministry of help (local missions). This ministry (without an official title and never requesting any assistance) was a reflection Deacon McClain and his wife. Their ministry of help was a ministry of serving others in ways such as visiting the sick, providing food for members of the community, providing clothing, serving as parental figure, providing lawn service, praying, singing, and …ALWAYS GIVING.
Deacon McClain was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church for over 70 years where he served anywhere he was needed. In title, he was chairman of the Deacon Board; however, in servitude there was no job too small for him to do. His pastimes included sharing the good news anywhere and anytime he had an opportunity. He was short in stature but a giant in his love (a little giant). He could reference a biblical scripture or share a song for any occasion. He was a proud, giving, loving, stern, and comical man even on his death bed. He LOVED his wife, children, and his grandchildren. He unselfishly shared his love, gifts, talents, and treasures with many in community as a brother, uncle, friend, mentor, and father-figure.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his bonus mother Dorcus Hunter McClain; siblings Paul (Rosie) McClain; George McClain, Robert (Sally Ann) McClain, Martha McClain, Bishop Jesse McClain, Rev. Inez Goddard, Joseph McClain, and Pearl McClain.
He leaves to cherish his memory and continue his legacy his wife of 53 years Gloria McClain; his children S. Davena (Charles) Foster of Greensboro, NC, Fredrick (Leslie) of Bessemer City, NC, Katrina McClain of Charlotte, NC, Jeffrey McClain of Nashville, TN; siblings Theodore (Allean) McClain of Waco, NC, Minister Arthur (Bertie) McClain of Kings Mountain, NC, Shirley Williams of Atlanta, GA, Charles McClain of Mary Esther, FL; bonus siblings Hillard Hunter (Stella) of Fate, Texas, M. Francis (Fred) of Gastonia, NC, and Timothy Hunter of Albany, GA; sisters-in-law Barbara McClain of Kings Mountain, Louise McClain of Lincolnton, NC, Kathy McClain, Gail Bolden, and brother-in-law Rev. Thomas Goddard; seven grandchildren Jasmine Harris McClain, Brooklyn (Terrance) Smith, Destini (Allen) Marshall, Javon (Keiyshawna) Morgan, Faith Foster, Darja McClain, and Jeremiah Foster; nine great-grandchildren Malachi Miller, Karson Whitworth, Kyren Whitworth, Ali Rodriguez, Saniyah Parker, Noah Foster, Kali McClain, Kailyn McClain and Darja McClain Jr, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
