Eather Mae Bowean, 64, of Knoxville, passed away in peace as she was surrounded by love, on Monday, June 10, 2024 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. She died after a fierce battle with ovarian and uterine cancer. Eather was born in Queens, New York, but was raised for some of her life by her maternal grandmother in Lenoir, North Carolina. She was a graduate of West Caldwell High School in Lenoir. Eather worked as a professional caretaker and she was also a serial entrepreneur who took on many pursuits. Most notably, at one point, she owned and operated a thrift store that specialized in plus-sized fashionable clothing. Eather was an amateur photographer, milliner, jewelry designer and antiques collector who had such deep interest in recreational vehicles and large trucks that she obtained a CDL license. But most of all, Eather was a loyal and devoted mother who tirelessly dedicated more than 34 years to the full time daily care of her beloved son, Ronald Bowean, who lived with a disability. She spent every day at his side and he was the joy of her life until he died in 2013. Besides Ronald, who was affectionately known as PoPo, she is preceded in death by her mother, Laura Norwood Bowean; and her sister, Charlene Bowean. She is survived by a daughter, Popo’s twin sister Lolly Bowean, and three nephews: Demetrios, Yusef and Julius.
Eather’s family will receive friends from 5-5:30 p.m. with the Service to follow at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, June 17, 2024 at Unity Mortuary at 1425 McCalla Avenue in Knoxville.
