Deacon Soloman James Sanders, 76, of Albany, Georgia departed this life on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia.
Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. in the Greater Cutliff Grove Baptist Church, 835 W Broad Ave, Albany, GA 31701.
Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memory Gardens, 2120 Martin Luther King Jr Drive, Albany, Georgia 31701.
Soloman James Sanders was born October 21, 1947, in Sasser, Terrell County, Georgia. He was welcomed into the world by the late Deacon Abraham “Scott” Sanders and the late Iola Mae Sloan Sanders. The oldest of nine siblings, he was educated in the Terrell County school system. After graduation from Carver High School, he was drafted into the United States Army and after one tour, he later joined the Army Reserve where he served for many years. After military life, he joined the Albany Police Department and attended Albany Technical School, where he received certification in auto mechanics and truck driving. His labor in this world included truck driving and plant supervisor. His labor for the Kingdom was teacher, speaker, praying, deacon, and his passion was lifting his voice in song. He served as the president of the Layman Dept. of the General Missionary Baptist Association. He served in finances with various organizations. He was affiliated with musical groups including The Landmarks, The Gospel Melatones, The Gospelites, and the President of the Male Chorus of The Greater Cutliff Grove Baptist Church.
He first connected to The First lntuitional Baptist Church for a short period. He later connected to the Greater Cutliff Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where he served faithfully. It was here where he met and married his wife, Dorothy “Blakely” Sanders.
Soloman James Sanders departed this life on June 13, 2024, at 9:15 a.m. at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Abraham and Iola Sanders;
three brothers, Craig Peterson, Jonathan Sanders, and Frank Sanders; and a son, Juston Denard Sanders.
He leaves to treasure his memory: a devoted and loving wife, Dorothy Sanders; six children, Eric (Jackie) Sanders of Columbus, OH, Kenneth Sanders of Albany, GA, Steven Boyd of Tallahassee, FL, Gwendolyn (Carl) Brown of Americus, GA, Bernard (Selena) Blakely of Albany, GA, and Priscilla Blakely of Augusta, GA; five siblings, Iola Pearl Sanders, Mary Albritton, Deleon Sanders, Wanda (Jack) Kirkland, and Patricia (Willie) Holmes; and a host of nieces, nephews, and grandchildren, one great grandchild, cousins, and friends.
