Mrs. Doris K. Young, a native of Utica, MS was born to the late Mr. Grover Cleveland & Mrs. Bettie Stimage Kelker on January 6th. She was the eighth child born to this union.
Mrs. Young's early education begins at Welcome School in Utica, MS. She also attended Utica Institute, Utica Junior College, Hinds Community College and Jackson State College (Jackson State University) where she received a degree in Early Childhood Education.
She was a former beautician in Mart 51, Jackson, MS, a Head Start Teacher at Morning Star Center until it closed and reopened at Welcome Head Start Center in Utica, MS, Center Administrator for Hinds County Project Head Start (Welcome Center). For 12 years, she served as a Bus Monitor for Durham Transportation/Hinds County Public Schools.
She married the late Mr. Paul Young & they were married for 30 plus years.
She is a member of Welcome M.B. Church, Choir President, Pastor’s Aide President, Hinds County Baptist Association, Baptist Union, Hinds County Congress of Christian Education, Most Ancient Matron of the Heroine of Jericho Court #130. She was a member of the Welcome Head Start Choir, the Greater Zion Travelers Church Choir and United Sisters & Brothers in Christ Gospel Choir. She has served all over Hinds & Copiah County where she loved to talk about the Lord. She was a firm believer to always read your bible every day. She loved to spend time admiring her roses, her cats and sitting in her yard under her magnolia tree.
God called Mrs. Young to her eternal rest on Sunday, June 23, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family.

Bailey all of Clinton, MS; Reshonda (Ronald) Borel of McDonough, GA; grandchildren; (deceased grandson-James Gibson); Vincent Gibson of Jackson, MS; Kenetria, Teonia & Teundra Cable all of Jackson, MS; Imani & Adam Kelker of Orlando, FL; great grands; Keniah Dixon, Kyler Hutton, Kamari Cooper, Kalyse Cooper & Kohl Cooper all of Clinton, MS; Xeybien & Kaleb Borel of McDonough, GA; gee-gee’s 2 little ones; Ayden Cable of Jackson, MS; Aubree Bailey of Clinton, MS; D’Monterrio Gibson, Michael Chiko Hudgins, Jacobie Gibson, Jaden Bridgeman, Jamario Bingham; sister; Verlee K. Cunningham of Utica, MS; sister-in-laws; Mamie Young of Dallas, TX; Ruby Pearl Young of Jackson, MS. She also leaves to cherish her memories many nephews & nieces, her many Head Start Co-workers, Head Start students, and many relatives and friends. Also, Melvin & Darlene Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters; Earlene K. Yates, Mary Ann K. Wilson, Altha Mae K. Hunter, Mytris Marie K Marshall; brothers; Nelson, Herbert and Fredrick Kelker.

Funeral services Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., Welcome M.B. Church, 2843 Old Adam Station Road, Utica, MS 39175 with burial in Welcome Church Cemetery in Utica, MS.
