Ms. Mary Lee Young, 77, of Phenix City, AL formerly of Columbus, GA passed Friday, June 28, 2024 in Phenix City, AL.

Graveside service is 11:00 a.m. EST, Saturday, July 6, 2024 at Evergreen Memorial Park, 4500 St. Mary's Rd, Columbus, GA, with Pastor Gale Jackson of Rockola Baptist Church, Waverly Hall, GA, officiating, Mr. Larry Greene, eulogist. Visitation is Friday, July 5, 2024 from 3 - 5 p.m. EST

Mary Lee Young was born in Omaha, Georgia on January 7, 1947 to the late Thelma Greene and the late Bud Jones.


At a young age, her family moved to Lumpkin, Georgia where she attended Lumpkin Elementary and High School. She gave birth to her daughter, Joann Richardson, before moving to Columbus, Georgia where she met her late husband Eddie Young. They married on January 10, 1975.

She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother and step - mother. She gave her life to Christ at an early age and was a devoted member of Greater New Hope Baptist Church.

She was known for her vivacious spirit, wit, sense of humor, and being a woman of fashion. She enjoyed singing in the choir at Greater New Hope Baptist Church where she was also a deaconess. Miss Mary was an active member of her community where she often touched the lives of many through her delicious cooking, which she often shared with family, neighbors, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Young, parents,Bud Jones and Thelma Greene; sisters, Carolyn J. Cox and Theresa Greene-Anderson; sister in law, Veronica Richarsdson;

Her memory is cherished by her daughter Joann Richardson; three granddaughters, Natasha Johnson (Ashley), Nakisha Richardson, Tomekia Richardson; nine brothers, Lee Richardson (Maggie), Eugene Richardson (Nunle), Jerry Richardson, Clinton Richardson, Calvin Greene, Kenneth Greene, Larry Greene (Theresa), Reginald Greene; Benjamin Greene; three sisters, Alma Richardson - Lavender (Jerrard), Priscilla Greene Olfshefki, Juanita Green - Cannon (Joe), nine great - grandchildren, Kelsey King, Keonte Williams, Damion Richardson, Tanryn Thorn, Keonna Williams, Jamie Jackson Jr., Jamon Jackson, Jakiem Jackson and Jakeisha Jackson; three great-great grandchildren, Jakobe Williams, Kodi King Ra'iLynn Williams; stepchildren, Wanda Faye Raiford, Maxine Harris, and Curtis Rose; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
