Mrs. Jimmie Lee Howell was born August 9, 1939 in Quitman, GA to the late Jimmy C. Major and Ezella Mae Major.
She was educated in the Brooks County School System. She received Christ at an early age and was a faithful and dedicated member of First Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. While attending First Antioch, Mrs. Howell served faithfully as President of the Mission Department, member of the Pastor’s Aide, Women of Grace and was recently honored for her dedication to the Clothes Closet Ministry.
Later in life, she furthered her education attending Valdosta State College and earned a degree in Business Management. She worked for Levi Strauss and Company as a Seamstress Supervisor. She was joined in Holy Matrimony to the love of her life, Mr. Harry B. Howell, Sr. for 67 years.
Jimmie Lee was a loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, sister and aunt who was dedicated to her family and church family. The love that she had enriched everyone who knew her.
On Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at her residence, Jimmie was carried to heaven on the wings of a dove surrounded by her loving family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmy C. Major and Ezella Mae Major; one daughter, Karen D. Howell; one granddaughter, Brittany V. Jenkins; three brothers, Jackie Major, Larry Major and Johnny Major; three sisters, Geraldine Horton, Cynthia Booker and Laverne Major; one special friend, Sam Thomas.
She leaves to cherish her memories and celebrate her life to her loving and devoted husband of 67 years, Harry B. Howell, Sr., of Valdosta, GA; six loving children, Harry Howell, Sr. (Eula) of Valdosta, GA, Phyllis Baker (Larry) of Hinesville, GA, Lennard Howell (Ivelisse), Kenneth Howell (Reomie), Beth Howell (Lyndon) and Lisa Howell (Eddy) all of Valdosta, GA; twelve grandchildren; thirty-one great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; six sisters, Iola Singletary of Darlington, SC, Marjorie Singletary (Haywood) of Valdosta, GA, Vanessa Kelly (Lewis), Daisy Brazil (Dan), Martha Murray and Ida Graham all of St. Augustine, FL; two brothers, Rudolph Major (Annie Ruth) of Valdosta, GA and Jimmy C. Major, Jr. of Delaware; also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and the First Antioch Missionary Baptist Church Family.
The celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at First Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 517 North Oak Street, Valdosta, GA 31601. Rev. Albert L. Barfield, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens.
Public viewing will be held Friday, July 12, 2024 from 10:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
