Alfred J. Wadley, 91, of Harrisburg, passed away July 13, 2024 in the care of hospice at Carolyn's House.
He was born in Harrisburg, the son of the late Ruth (Wadley) Calhoun. He lived with and was raised by his loving grandmother, Ada J. Wadley.
“Alfie”, as he was affectionately called by family and friends, was a graduate of John Harris High School and attended New York City College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, with the 82nd Airborne.
During his working career, he worked for the federal government as the Human Resource Director at Indiantown Gap. He also worked at the Harrisburg Housing Authority and was a real estate agent.
Alfred was deeply involved in the civil rights movement in the Harrisburg area and was recognized and received many awards for his service in the cause of civil rights.
He enjoyed cooking and the likes of Frank Sinatra and Billy Eckstine.
Alfred was preceded in death by his grandmother, mother and by his beloved son, Seth. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Donna; his daughter, Jocelyn “Jody” Wadley; his grandson, Quincy Wadley; three great grandchildren and many cousins.
The family greatly appreciates the help and support of his many close friends, especially Ralph and Brandie Manna and Sally and her son, Rich Steinmeier.
Alfred’s life will be celebrated at 12 Noon on Thursday, July 18, 2024 in the Chapel of the Major H. Winfield Funeral Home, Steelton with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until 12 Noon and burial in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
