Mrs. Gloria Mae Abner Jeter, 79, peacefully entered eternal rest on Sunday, July 14, 2024 at her home. Gloria was the daughter of the late Mr. Bill Abner and Ms. Tinner Blackmon.
Gloria was born in Atmore, Alabama and raised in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. She attended the Okaloosa County Public School System. On October 24, 1964, she married the love of her life, Leroy, and he whisked her away and brought her back to his hometown,Spartanburg, South Carolina, where she lived and grew to love the Spartanburg community as an involved resident for almost 60 years. She joined the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and was a faithful member until her transition. Gloria loved people and made friends wherever she went. She was employed at Butte Knit Clothing Manufacturing and Hersey Products and met several lifelong friends.
She absolutely loved going to the Bethlehem Center in her beloved Highland Community where she enjoyed attending the Senior Citizen Classes and she became a member of the exclusive “Sewing Club.” She was extremely proud of the blankets, hats, and towels that she would graciously craft by hand for the children and elderly in the Highland and upstate communities. Also, her family members and friends were often the recipients of her uniquely designed pieces.
Gloria was an active “Honorary Classmate” of the Carver High School Class of 1963, and she loved and adored her “Classmates” as though she had graduated with them.
Left to cherish her loving and sweet memories is her devoted husband of 60 years, Mr. Leroy Jeter. Her memories also live on in the hearts of her children, Mr. Fredrick Jeter of Columbia, SC, Mr. Roderick Jeter (Lyn) of San Diego, CA, and Goddaughter, Dr. Kira L. Reaves (Dexter) of Greer, SC; her six grandchildren and six great grandchildren; two sisters, Ms. Virgie McCullam of Atmore, AL and Ms. Joyce Minus of Fort Walton Beach, FL; three brothers, Mr. Earnest Abner (Elizabeth) of Dade City, FL, Mr. Willie Pace, Jr. (Ree) and Mr. Charles Pace of Fort Walton Beach, FL; her brother-in-law, Mr. Lawrence Jeter of Milton, MA; her special friend and sewing partner, Mrs. Michelle Campbell of Spartanburg, SC; another special friend and mentee, Mrs. Patrena Mims of Spartanburg, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Gloria was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Mrs. Luevenia Abner Wiggins.
Gloria was a lovely lady of dignity and respect. Her legacy is woven into a beautiful family tapestry, with threads of love spanning generations that will be cherished forever. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. May Gloria’s unwavering faith, kindness, wisdom, and wittiness continue to inspire us all, and may our own faith guide us through this time, knowing that in God’s hands, our dear Gloria has found everlasting peace.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024 at 12:00 noon at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Spartanburg, SC.
