Joaneth Awoshiley, a beloved mother, daughter, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2024, at the age of 63.
Born on September 16, 1960, in Washington, D.C., Joaneth, a.k.a. Jo, was the last daughter to be born from Luther Crawford and Virginia Louise Crawford. As a sister, Joaneth's bond with her siblings was unbreakable, filled with memories of shared childhood adventures and lifelong support. Everyone who knew Joaneth was impacted by her love, brightness, and vitality.
Throughout her life, Joaneth radiated a warm, loving soul that drew people close to her. She had an infectious smile and a kind heart, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. Her bright, comical, and full-of-life personality left a lasting impression on everyone she met. It inspired people to want to be happy in all circumstances and not let life struggles limit their happiness.
Joaneth's life was a testament of God’s power, love, and family. She was a mother to three children, Jovan, Lola, and Isaiah. Her children were the pride and joy of her life. They were the greatest accomplishments she achieved. Her nurturing spirit extended to her five beautiful granddaughters, Ladae, Aaliyah, Lavae, Livia, and Hope, with whom she shared moments of joy and laughter with. They each had a story to tell after every encounter with her. Her aspirations for her granddaughters were to constantly be aware of their value, walk in their power, and correct anyone that may be mistaken. She wasn’t just grandma, but “grandmama” to them all! As you look at each one of her granddaughters, you can see a glimpse of her teachings and joyful personality.
Joaneth's legacy will live on through her children, grandchildren, siblings, and anyone who truly knew her. All will continue to honor her memory by living their lives with the same love and enthusiasm she embodied. Her spirit will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Joaneth Awoshiley will forever remain in our hearts, a shining example of living life with God's purpose, never giving up on love, the importance of family, staying true to self, standing strong on faith, telling it like it is, surviving every obstacle, believing that laughter truly heals, fight till the war is over, and when you are tired rest!
