Johnnie Mellion, 83, passed on July 27, 2024 in Columbus, GA.

Funeral service to be held 2:00 p.m. EST, Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Benevolent Grove Baptist Church, 525 Glenn Bridge Road, Pittsview, AL with Rev. Robert Buckner, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, August 2, 2024 from 1-5 p.m. EST.

Johnnie Mae Mellion of Phenix City, Al was born on a January 17, 1941, to the late Fletcher Ivery and the late Lucille Chatman. She was called home on Saturday July 27, 2024 at St. Francis Hospital, Columbus, GA.

Johnnie Mae accepted Christ at an early age. She was a faithful and devoted member of Benevolent Grove Baptist Church serving on the Usher Board and the Kitchen Committee. She was employed by Mr. and Mrs. Sherrod Taylor as a domestic for many years. Johnnie Mae also retired from First Presbyterian Church in Columbus, GA.

Johnnie Mae never met a stranger and showed sincere love to everyone. Her home was always filled with family and friends from all over. And anyone you ask would say Johnnie Mae was a great cook. She enjoyed being by some water fishing whenever she could.

She was preceded in death by her parents Fletcher Ivery and Lucille Chatman; sons Johnny L. Mellion, Rosevelt Mellion, and Willie L. Mellion; three brothers and seven sisters and her beloved companion, Jessie James Truttling.

Johnnie Mae leaves to cherish her family, two sons, Henry (Jackie) Mellion of Tuskegee, AL and Rickey (Elsie) Mellion of Sacramento, CA; three daughters, Lessie (Denny) Mabry of Phenix City, AL, Shirley Mellion of Phenix City, AL, and Denise (Homer) Word of Seale, AL; two brothers, Eddie James Chatman and Kirven (Berniece) Chatman; four sisters, Cora Lee Lloyd, Christine Lias, Naomi (Dewayne) Stackhouse and Angela Ivery; A very special niece Vera Jean Allison; 20 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
