Junius Crawford Williams III, affectionately known as J.C., passed away on July 30, 2024, in Greensboro, North Carolina. Born on July 11, 1937, in Tuskegee, Alabama, J.C. was the only child of Junius C. Williams Jr. and Macie Handy Williams. He grew up surrounded by a loving family, including his grandparents, Junius C. Williams Sr. and Fannie Boyd Williams, and his Aunt and Uncle, Gussie and William Lavender. His passion for basketball earned him a scholarship to Florida A&M University (FAMU), where he graduated in 1959 with a degree in Health Education.
J.C. was united in marriage, on August 12th, 1959, to his high school sweetheart Daisy “Jean” Kennedy. Together they had three children: Juanda, Keith, and Evelyn. Their 64-year marriage was filled with love and devotion. J.C. is survived by his wife Jean, their children, 9 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
J.C. began his career as a Health Education Teacher and Coach at T.R. Jackson High School in Milton, Florida, and later taught at Milton High School after integration in 1967. He retired in 1992 from Santa Rosa County Schools as Principal of T.R. Jackson Elementary School. He received many accolades, including the Florida Distinguished Black Educator Award.
A man of deep faith, J.C.'s spiritual journey began in Milton, Florida, where he was baptized into the body of Christ. He served faithfully in multiple leadership capacities at the Susan Street Church of Christ between 1970 and 2002. After relocating to Greensboro, North Carolina, in 2002, J.C. became an Elder at the Sharpe Road Church of Christ, dedicating ten years to the congregation.
J.C. is survived by his loving wife, Jean, along with their beloved children: Juanda Davis (Theodore), Keith Williams (Angela), and Evelyn Tinsley (Anthony, deceased). His grandchildren: Theodore Davis III, Morgan Davis Allen (LaMontt), Garrison Davis, Janine Williams, Jordan Williams, Kennedy Tinsley (Christina), April Tinsley Thomas (Eric), Natasha Tinsley Henderson (Christopher), and Jewel Tinsley. His great-grandchildren: LaMontt Jr, Jameson and Chadwick Allen, Jaden Harvin, Avana Williams, Kaycee, Kellee, Kenzee, and Kalel Tinsley, Erielle and Averie Thomas, and Dallas and Camille Henderson.
As we mourn his passing, we celebrate a life well-lived. J.C.'s life was a testament to unwavering faith, love, and dedication. May he rest in eternal peace with his Lord and Savior.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Sharpe Road Church of Christ in memory of J.C., continuing his legacy of service and devotion to the Christian community.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, August 10, 2024 at Sharp Road Church of Christ. Service will begin at 1:00pm.
Viewing will be Friday, August 9, 2024 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at Woodard Funeral Home.
