Rose Merit Brewton

11/08/1928 - 08/30/2024

Rose Merit Brewton was born on November 8, 1928, in Fairfield, Florida to Edgar Blunt and Veronia Blunt. Rose moved to Ocala, Florida before moving to Clearwater, Florida in 1954, where she resided for the remainder of her life. Rose attended Ed Water College for two years and nursing school, where she obtained her license to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

Rose was employed with Lykes Pasco as a Head Inspector for five years. She was an English teacher at the Old Clearwater High School. She was gifted to be a seamstress, but her passion in life was being a housewife and mother. She had a love for being active in the community and served as a Scout Leader for the First African American Girl Scout Troop. Rose was President of the PTA at Williams Elementary and a lifetime member of the NAACP.

Rose was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Clearwater and later joined Grand Central Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, St. Petersburg, Florida. In 1961, she joined Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church and remained until her demise. Rose served faithfully within her local church on the Deaconess Board, where she was President for 20 years, sung with the Choir, where she served as President for 19 years and a member of the Senior Women Mission Ministry. Her service to God and others did not stop within the walls of the church, but she served others within the community, reaching out to them in prayer and other needs. Rose served many years with Congress #4 of the First South Florida Missionary Baptist District Association and with the National Baptist Convention of America, Inc.

On October 26, 1949, Rose was united in Holy Matrimony to Willie M. Brewton, Sr. The two enjoyed making a life with each other and for their family. They worked together to build a home where God was the head and served daily. Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Willie M. Brewton, Sr., son, Willie M. Brewton, Jr., daughter, Margaret Brewton Davis, parents, Edgar Blount and Veronia Blount, brothers, Clarence W. Blount, Edgar Blount and Lindbergh Blount, sisters, Lula Pompey, Vera Austin and Theola Pompey and grandson, Willie M. Brewton, III.

Rose Merit Brewton transitioned from this earthly life to her eternal home on August 30, 2024.
