Marilyn Beatrice Anderson

Passed 09/05/2024

Marilyn Creekmur (Beatrice) Anderson, more affectionately known as Nana by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, was called to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 5th 2024.

She was born on November 30th, 1936, in Chesapeake, VA to the late John R. Creekmur and Lottie Beatrice Miller, with whom she shares a middle name. She was the youngest girl of 10 brothers and sisters. As student, she attended school in Norfolk County to graduate from I.C. Norcom High School subsequently earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Norfolk State University.

Marilyn was a dedicated educator in the Chesapeake Public School District spanning 28 years from 1969 to 1997. She cared deeply for her many students and coworkers and made long lasting friends during her tenure.

She later moved to Augusta, Georgia to settle into her retirement. Her green thumb flourished after moving. When she wasn’t riding around and admiring yards throughout the city, she was caring for her own flowers and plants. She could be found on any given day tending to her yard. She also had a love for birds. Any bird that entered her yard left with a full belly. Birdseed was always available. Even on her last day, she made sure the backyard birds were fed.

God was a major force in her life. She enjoyed reading and studying the Bible, listening to Gospel music and watching Christian programs. Sunday morning was always designated for church. Samuel 22:2 really resonated with her and was proudly displayed on her license plate.

Over the years, she made many friends and loved interacting with them whether over the phone, in person or through letters. She made sure to cultivate those relationships. She adored her family and is leaving behind a legacy of style, success and wisdom to be passed down for generations.
She is predeceased by her daughter Cheryl Hines and great-grandchild Ari Greene.
Those who remain to keep her memory alive include:
Brother, John E. Creekmur; Daughters, Faye S. Anderson-Mathis (John) of Augusta, GA, Monica F. Anderson; Grandchildren, Lauren N. Anderson, Shannon Mathis, Tori C.
