John Raymond Hawkins, 72, a proud native of Spartanburg, SC was born on January 18, 1952. He was the fourth child of five siblings born to Rev. Hugh Hawkins and Carrie Dunbar Hawkins.
He was a graduate of Foster's Grove High School, Class of 1969.
Mr. Hawkins was a member of Holden Chapel Baptist Church where he served as a door keeper for the Kingdom of God. He never met a stranger, he loved talking and meeting people.
John was a member of Antique Car Clubs.
He was employed at Hoechst Celanese for over forty years.
Mr. Hawkins loved sports.
Left to cherish fonda and loving memories are: his devoted wife of forty-seven years, Azziemena Dawkins Hawkins; his son, Brandon Rashad Hawkins; his brothers, Ceve (Doris) Hawkins of Indiana and Clarence (Judy) Hawkins of Spartanburg, SC; a special nephew, Cleve "Tony" Hawkins reared in the home; his six sisters-in-law, Icalee Mathis, Myrtle Duncan, Gwen Dawkins, Mary Dawkins, Judy Dawkins and Doris Hawkins; his dear friends, Bobby Smith and Roger Lyles; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lynn Knighter and Diane Cheatham.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Holdens Chapel Missionary Church, 2260 Old Furnace Rd, Spartanburg, SC. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024 from 6:00pm - 7:00pm at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard St., Spartanburg, SC.
