Lois Thompson Gordon was born May 27, 1938 in Grange, Georgia to the late Joe and Mamie Lee Davis Thompson.

Lois’s journey of life ended on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at her residence. She is preceded in death by her husband, George Gordon Sr., her parents, Joe and Mamie Lee Davis Thompson, two sons Eleon Gordon and Tony Gordon, brothers: James Thompson, Charlie Thompson, Donny Thompson, Ray Davis, Irving Thompson, Leotis Thompson, Namon Thompson, Alex Peeples and Roy Peeples, sister Doretha Wolfe, granddaughter, LaTasha Gordon, great-granddaughter Christen Gordon, and great-grandson Da’Maria’ Gilmore.

Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at the New Hope A.M.E. Church, 11960 Highway 171N, Louisville, GA. Interment will be held in the church cemetery.

Public viewing will be held Friday, September 20, 2024 from 3:00 – 6:00 P.M.

She received her high school diploma in 1955. At an early age Lois was baptized at Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church in Louisville, GA. She worked on several jobs in the CSRA ending with 23 years at Peggy’s Restaurant in Wrens, GA. Lois was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt loved her family. She was a true definition of a strong black woman who laid the foundation for her family and many others. She was a very loving, caring, and nurturing woman who loved to cook and spend time with family. She was the matriarch of her family and many others around with her leaving a lasting impact on all those who crossed her path. She may be gone from our sight, but she will never be gone from our hearts. She has left a trail of beautiful memories that will be cherished by family and friends to last throughout our lifetimes.

She met, and on April 19, 1955 married the now late George Gordon Sr.

Lois leaves many cherished memories to her loving daughters: Joyce Ryan of Stapleton, GA, Viola Demelus of Statesboro, GA, Dianie (Jackie) Smith of Stapleton, GA, and Gwen Farmer of Summerville, SC; sons: Ricky Gordon of Avera, GA, Michael Gordon of Atlanta, GA, George (Tara) Gordon Jr. of Roanoke, VA; sisters and brothers: George (Patricia) Thompson, Miami, Fl, Dr. Dennis Thompson, Joe (Willie Mae) Thompson, Shirley Thompson Whitfield, Janet (Johnny) Morgan, Louisville, Ga, 10 grandsons, 10 granddaughters, 12 great grandsons and 23 great granddaughters, and 2 great great-granddaughters; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
