Deborah Aurelia Hairston, affectionately known by her family and close friends as “Debbie” entered into eternal rest on September 17, 2024, in Silver Spring, MD. She was born on July 3, 1952, in Martinsville, VA to the late Percy Steven Hairston, Sr., and Irene Jackson Hairston.
Deborah graduated from Martinsville High School with the Class of 1970. She attended Norfolk State College majoring in Early Childhood Education. Thereafter, she was a Teacher for the Martinsville Public School System, Virginia Beach Public School System, and Washington District of Columbia Public School System. During her tenure as a teacher, she received recognition as being an outstanding teacher.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Martinsville, VA and First Baptist Church in Silver Spring, MD.
In Deborah's leisure time, she enjoyed being around her family and enjoying great hefty laughs, dancing, eating as well as going to Washington, DC to enjoy the cultural events that were happening around town. She shared a close bond with her siblings, nephews, nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews, and loved her family unconditionally.
Preceded by her demise was her (Father)Percy Steven Hairston, Sr., (Mother) Irene Jackson Hairston, (Brother) Lewis Edward Hairston, and (Brother) John Henry Hairston. In addition, a niece, Brittney Hairston, nephew, Percy Steven Hairston, IV; Maternal Grandparents, Mary Seay Jones and Reginald Jones as well as Paternal Grandparent, Odessa Gravely Patterson.
She leaves behind five siblings to cherish her fond memories: Percy (Pamela) Hairston of Harrisburg, PA; Michael Hairston of Culpepper, VA, Mary (George) Johnson of Herndon, VA, Olivia (Sidney) Cross of Lanham, MD, and Ronald Hairston of Martinsville, Va. In addition, she leaves behind nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews along with a VERY SPECIAL AUNT Teresa Jones who was like a sister.
A visitation service will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 12 noon with the funeral service at 12:30 p.m. at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville, VA with Pastor Charles Whitfield, Eulogist. The interment will follow at the Seay Family Cemetery, Cherry St. Extension, Martinsville, VA.
A public viewing will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024, at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Other times, the family will be receiving friends at the home of her brother, Ronald Hairston, 113 Crestwood Ct., Martinsville.
