Life’s Journey
“Your life was a blessing; your memory a treasure, You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.”
Thelma Virginia Baskerville, daughter of the late Willie Baskerville and Gladys Lucinda Jiggetts Baskerville, was born November 10, 1949 in Mecklenburg County, in La Crosse, Virginia. She departed this life on October 4, 2024 at her residence, surrounded by her children. Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Lee Baskerville; a brother, John Henry Baskerville; and sister, Willie Ann Smith.
At an early age, she was baptized and joined Pleasant Hill RZUA Church, in La Crosse, Virginia. She later joined Free Union Church in Bracey, Virginia where she was a faithful member of the Beautification Committee until her passing. She received her education in the Mecklenburg County Public School systems, where she graduated from East End High School in 1968. After graduating, she worked many years at Denny’s restaurant in South Hill, Virginia. After 30+ years of working with Denny’s, she retired to take care of her mother.
On September 14, 1968, she married Samuel Lee Baskerville and to this union, four children were born. Thelma enjoyed watching Western Films, Soap Operas, shopping for flowers, attending Church and Musical Programs. She also enjoyed collecting and wearing Paparazzi jewelry, purses, and shoes; as well as enjoying any department store that had a sale! Thelma was a quiet woman, but her presence was loud.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: 4 loving and devoted children- Linda Baskerville (Arlton) Walker of South Hill, VA, Alvin Lee Baskerville of South Hill, VA, Andrea “Toshia” Baskerville (Tyo) Godette of Boydton, VA, and Lisa Baskerville (Daryl) Barner of Bracey, VA; her 8 devoted grandchildren- LaShika Baskerville, Darius Baskerville ( Janiqua), Jasmine Barner, Tra’Quon Godette, Jalisa Barner, Justin Barner, Damarion George, and Jaylen Godette, and 4 great-grandchildren, LaDreya Stevens, Tremayne Stevens Jr, Anora Baskerville, and Adonis Baskerville. She also leaves behind 3 devoted siblings- Floyd (Doris Ann) Baskerville, Jimmy Lee (Maranda) Baskerville, and Delois Baskerville all of LaCrosse, VA. Very devoted friends- Walter Thompson, Lula Sturdivant, Mable McKnight, and Rose Russell; special friends- John and Jeanette Thompson and the Clements family of Blackridge, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
If Roses Grow in Heaven
If roses grow in Heaven, Lord please pick a bunch for me
Place them in my mother’s arms and tell her they’re from me.
Tell her we love her and we miss her, and when she turns to smile,
Place a kiss upon her cheek and hold her for a while.
Because remembering her is easy, we do it every day,
But there’s an ache within our hearts, that will never go away.
