Sister Marion Jenette Jones was born September 30, 1952, in Marianna, Florida, to the late John and Mahulda in Gardner. She transitioned to eternal rest on Saturday, October 12, 2024.
She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Henshaw Chapel AME Church, where she was a lifelong member. She served faithfully on the Missionary Board as a stewardess and sang with Choir #2. Marion further served as a class leader, president of the Young Adult Choir, Daughters of Sarah, chairperson of the May Day Celebration, and member of the Women Missionary Society and Sunday School.
She recently accepted a nomination to be a deaconess at Henshaw Chapel. She attended the public schools of Jackson County, graduating from the Jackson County Training School, class of 1970.
She was employed with Russell Corporation for many years and then J-Tran, until she retired. She met and married the late James Alvin Jones, Sr. This union was blessed with four children, one of whom preceded her in death, Delton Tyrone Gardner.
In addition to her parents, husband, and son, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Jeraldine Mount. She leaves a legacy of love and treasured memories with: one daughter, Sharron Latrail Jones-Yawn; husband, Johnny of Cottondale, FL; two sons, Kendrick Gardner of Marianna, FL, and James Alvin Jones, Jr., of Macon, GA; four sisters, Minnie Gardner of Cottondale, FL, Jacqulyn Gardner of Newark, NJ, Laverne Davis and husband, Henry C. of Blountstown, FL, and Vanice Moore and husband, Melvin of Albany, GA; one brother John Gardner of Newark, NJ ten grandchildren, Marion, MaKayla, Kendriece, Kendrick, Jr., Kaleb, Syneria, Shawn, Kaydence, Aja and Johnathan; four great-grandchildren, Astaria, Asher, Khloe, and Tripp; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary (Robert) White of Cottondale, FL, Addie Sue Pyles of Jacob City, FL, Carolyn (Harold) Holmes of New Port News, VA, and Danny (Jaketa) Jones of LA; goddaughter, LaWanda Bellamy; godson, Kelvin Potter; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
A public viewing will be Friday, October 18th from 3-6pm at Peoples Funeral Home Chapel.
A Homegoing Celebration will be held Saturday, October 19th at 11am at Henshaw Chapel AME Church with Pastor Freddie Tellis, Reverend Lawrence Gantt, Rev. David Greene and Minister Barbara White officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Mary Church Cemetery with arrangements entrusted to the Caring Staff at Peoples Funeral Home of Marianna.
