On October 12, 2024, our Heavenly Father dispatched an angel to one of His faithful servants, Doris Garrison Gaston affectionally known as "Mama Doris" to let her know that her earthly assignment had been fulfilled and completed. Doris was born on April 2, 1933 in Gaffney, SC to the late Willie Garrison, Sr. and Annie Bell Walker Garrison.

She received her early education at Dunbar High School, where she proudly participated on the basketball team and graduated with the class of 1952. A lifelong member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, Doris dedicated herself to many roles in service to her faith. She served on the Usher Board, the Kitchen Committee, the Willing Workers Missionary, and held the role of Sunday School Secretary. Her service reflected her deep connection to her faith and community.

Professionally, Doris had a distinguished career at Fiber Industries, where she dedicated 32 years of hard work and retired with honor. After her retirement, her love for nurturing children led her to join the team at Kiddie Land Kindergarten, where she continued to serve for several more years.

Doris was preceded in death by her beloved son Greg, her siblings Faye Garrison, Helen Timmons, Willie Garrison, Jr., and Walter Garrison, as well as her nephews, Brian Keith Garrison and Powell Adkins. She is also reunited in heaven with her cherished in-laws, Roy Timmons, Camell Garrison, Mae Garrison, and her lifelong best friend, Dorothy (Dot) Gilmore.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory: her loving daughters Janice, Sharon, Ann, and Clara; her grandchildren Felicia, Maurice, Esa (Tyrell), and Judy; and great-grandchildren Ari, Amir; Asaiah, and Aisley. She is also survived by her brother, Lawson Garrison, and sister-in-law, Diane Garrison. Along with Felicia, Mama Doris raised Mike, Tish, 0mar; and Robin in her home. A host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends will also miss her.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 600 S. Long Street, East Spencer, NC 28039. Visitation at the church from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends Friday at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel, 1810 Brockett Avenue, High Point, NC 27260 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
